Tape, from Stockholm, Sweden, were established in 2000 and have slowly developed their swarming crystalline sound over three key studio albums, Opera (2002), Milieu (2003) and Rideau (2005), and on a number of collaborations, most recently Birds Of A Feather (2007) with Japanese group Minamo.

Tape’s music occupies a space somewhere between experimental and pop music, it has beautifully melodic elements and longer repetitive sections and some noise parts; maybe the closest references would be Gastr Del Sol or Tortoise (without the funk). The music is landscape, sensitive to buildings, an assured mix of acoustic and electronic elements; it is often transcendent and brilliant.

Tape are closely associated with a record label, Hapna, which is co-owned by one of its members, Johan Berthling, and whose aesthetic corresponds closely to the way the group sounds. Hapna has released music by Tape, Sagor & Swing, David Grubbs and Tenniscoats.

On a previous visit to Scotland they collaborated with Bill Wells and each member of Tape is involved in other music projects; Johan has also played with previous Le Weekend visitor, Mats Gustafsson.
