This duo first performed together at the Europa Jazz festival a year ago with an exquisite set of delicately poised improvisations. It is a welcome return to the festival for Hamid Drake who performed here in one of the most explosive and altogether differently pitched duos in 2001 with Peter Brotzmann and who always brings to any encounter a musical knowledge that is hard to challenge. The sheer beauty watching the music pour from Drake in performance is unforgettable. Raymond Boni has been a part of the French and European improvise scene for many years, with a lyrical grace to his playing that compliments a ferocious commitment and attack, that plunders the history of 20th century guitar playing. Expect a duo in full flight.
